Taprobane Flies is a hand-tying operation tied to its roots in Sri Lanka's long fly-tying heritage. We tie flies for fresh and salt water, in virtually any pattern that has proven itself on the water.

The range of patterns we can produce is vast, so we maintain a living catalogue rather than a fixed inventory. We do not carry flies on the shelf. We tie to order. Standard patterns from the catalogue can be ordered in modest quantities; wholesale and strictly custom runs are priced on application.

Orders are confirmed by email or WhatsApp. For a new customer, or for a new pattern for an existing customer, two good samples or an accurate, detailed specification. The recipe, hook and materials. Are required before tying begins.

If requested, and where time permits, counter-samples are forwarded for approval before production commences.

Each pattern is priced according to the materials it involves, the estimated tying time, the expertise the pattern requires, and the quantity ordered. Prices are quoted Ex-Factory, Sri Lanka, in US dollars or the customer's currency as preferred.

Standard catalogue patterns are quoted per dozen; bulk and custom runs are quoted per order.

There is no fixed minimum for standard catalogue patterns. Single-dozen retail orders are welcome.

For wholesale and custom tying we reserve the right to apply a surcharge to, or decline, orders of fewer than ten dozen per size, since each pattern must be set up on the bench before a single hook is tied.

Payment terms are negotiated per customer and confirmed on the quotation. A finance and administrative charge of 1% per month, or part thereof, applies to balances that exceed 30 days.

Ownership of the flies described on an invoice passes to the customer only when payment is received in accordance with the agreed terms.

We cannot guarantee a delivery date, and we will always state that an estimate is exactly that. An estimate. We do our best to complete every order in full and on time.

When demand exceeds our scheduled tying capacity, priority goes to customers who have provided the longest lead time, and to customers with a history of prompt payment.

We aim to dispatch orders an appropriate number of days ahead of the required delivery date, by air freight, courier or air post, using the least expensive reliable method unless the customer states a preference.

Shipment is on Ex-Works (EXW) terms unless otherwise agreed. The customer arranges and bears freight, customs and import duties at destination.

We reserve the right to decline to supply any customer, at our discretion, without obligation to give reasons, whether or not an order has already been acknowledged.
